LIPA Pledges Commitment to Capacity Building

first_imgThe Director General of the Liberia Institute of Public Administration (LIPA), Oblayon Blayon Nyemah, Sr. has pledged his institution’s commitment to ensuring quality capacity-building in the public and private sectors of the country.Mr. Nyemah made the assertion on Wednesday, April 2, at the orientation of eighth batch of trainees in procurement at the entity’s main office in Mamba Point old CID Road.He noted that LIPA, with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), World Bank and other partners, has trained over 260 persons in procurement from government ministries and agencies in the country.According to him, LIPA’s re-branding agenda includes improvement of quality services, which remains a vital focus for the entity, noting, “This component is cardinal to the transformation of our country.”Nyemah said: “Public sector modernization depends on the capacity of public servants and this is why we attach serious importance to the procurement sector of government because they in return attach value to money.”LIPA Director General then used the occasion to challenge participants to take their lessons seriously as the institute will drop anyone recording multiple absences and lateness.In remarks, LIPA Course Coordinator Christian Tabla lauded the World Bank for initiating the professionalization of public procurement in the country.According to Tabla, the project which started in 2010 has hosted seven classes, adding that “The current one is the eighth batch and comprises 35 trainees drawn from 20 ministries and agencies of government.”Participants will cover 10 modules in 10 working days and are expected to deal with topics such as introductory concept of procurement, procurement roles and responsibilities and ethical issues in procurement, among others.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
