AirAsia terminates participation in AirAsia Japan

first_imgAs part of the termination, ANA will need to return all of AirAsia aircraft leased to AirAsia Japan by 1 November 2013 as well as unwind the use of the AirAsia brand in its operations. AirAsia Group chief executive Tony Fernandes said although he has “great respect for ANA” it was time for the two airlines to part ways and AirAsia to focus its attention on running a “true LCC”. AirAsia has signalled it can no longer work with All Nippon Airways (ANA) when it comes to the shared management of AirAsia Japan. AirAsia says it is time for AirAsia and ANA to part ways. Announced today, AirAsia said due to conflicting management styles, it would sell its 49 percent stake in AirAsia Japan for up to JPY2,450,000 to ANA. AirAsia Japan will continue to operate under the AirAsia brand until 31 October 2013. “We have not given up on the dream of changing air travel in Japan and look forward to returning to the market.” “I remain positive on the Japanese market and believe there is tremendous opportunity for a LCC to succeed, as proven by the tremendous success AirAsia X has seen,” Mr Fernandes explained.   Source = ETB News: NJlast_img read more
