Sprint Overdrive Pro 3G4G mobile hotspot router arrives March 20

first_imgSprint has announced the upcoming availability of their new mobile hotspot device which they have called the Overdrive Pro 3G/4G.The mobile hotspot, which makes it possible to connect up to eight devices to mobile broadband simultaneously, offers a slight improvement over its predecessor, the Overdrive 3G/4G, which could handle just five. Applicable devices include anything with WiFi, including laptops, media players like the iPod touch, the iPad, and so on.Each wireless connection has a 150 foot range and supports the 802.11n standard. In terms of speed, any connected devices should also see a vast improvement when hooked up to a 4G network as it is 10 times faster than 3G. Additionally, the Overdrive Pro will power up/down up to 35% faster than the original model. Its integrated LCD screen is 43% larger, allowing for a wider viewing angle. It provides important usages information including, signal strength, remaining battery life, and how many devices are currently connected to the hotspot. Despite the increase in size the router itself remains small, which is quite remarkable given that it also squeezes in microSD storage and GPS location-based services (available to all connected devices). For those who are worried about security, you will be pleased to know that the router comes with integrated security out-of-the-box.Of course, these improvements will cost money and the 4G speeds will be subject to location as currently the network only has 71 areas that are enabled to use the faster service. But when the Overdrive Pro is launched on March 20 it will still come in at a respectable $49.99 (half the cost of the original) after a $50 mail in-rebate with a two-year service agreement at $49.99 per month.Read more at the Sprint press release, via Engadgetlast_img read more
